I promised a Swordfish report and I am sorry to say that we did not catch one. Unfortunatly we were cursed with absolutly no current and dirty water every where that we tried. We covered plenty of ground but just didn't get a bite. Enough with the bad, now let's talk about the good.On the the way out to swordfish, I passed Capt. Mike on his way in. It was early enough that I was afraid that he had an engine problem but my fears were unnecessary. It turns out that they had banged the yellowfin hard and were on the way in loaded with Yellowfin. Before I got out of the pass, Darryl called me and he too was on the way in. He too was loaded with tuna. Wednesday was more of the same and I was same for bothe Darryl and Mike. Mike had done well enough that his crew has already called to book there next trip. I was really starting to want in on the action, and today was my day.
We left in the thick fog and took our time as to avoid the various debris floating in the River. We made it to the bait spot and found the bait much less abundant than it had been, but after some work, we put a few in the well. As we were catching bait a few tuna came up so we set baits and we quickly caught an undersized tuna. The next bait was eaten by a shark. The third produced a nice 40 pound yellowfin. After that we put a 50 pounder in the boat. Then it shut down. We decided to switch tactics and we dropped some chum. We put two yellows in the box and again it shut down. We switched back to livies and it was back on. We doubled up and then put a third in. Then the grass came. Waves of grass as far as the eye could see. We switched back to chum and dounled up again. On the next pass, we hooked a good one. Red fought it like a pro and we put a good 90 pounder in the box. We decided on one more pass and 9 year old jake released a good little football and Robert put our double digit fish in the box. We had a great day.
It looks like the weather will hold through Sunday and we had a cancelation on a 26 footer for Saturday. Give us a call to put some tuna in the box.
