This weekend was all about the weather. Friday started out with realitivly calm seas but as the day went on, the wind and seas built. Darryl, Mike and I all fished the same place and the Yellowfin were on fire. Mike was the first to make bait and he must have had 3 nice Yellowfin in the box before Darryl and i began to fish. Darryl quickly doubled up while we waited. Darryl and Mike doubled again while my crew and I waited. I was starting to stew, but finally we got bit. From there on, we were all hooked up until Mike announced that they were full and heading north. Darryl and I stayed but the fishing slowed. We picked away at them but Mike and his crew, Joseph McArthy et al, were the big winners. Just as Darryl and I were about to head in in some bumpy conditions, some bigger fish came up. We both hooked up and all heck broke loose. Darryl's crew, Travis Jones and Buddies, Faought theres for a while but pulled the hook. On my boat, the Larry Roland crew, had there's get into the cable of the rig. We could feel that the fish was still there but it was also firmly in the cable. We moved the boat in every direction but we couldn't get him out. Finally I decided that I would have to put on the gloves and Either pull him out or break it off. As if by some miricle, as i started hand linning him, the fish unwrapped himself. We were back in the game. The fish put a whipping on us but in about 30 minutes, we had him on the deck of the boat. He went about 115 pounds and was just flat mean.Saturday was a different story. It was pretty rough from the get go. Every boat that I talked to had at least one client down for the count. Darryl's Crew decided to reschedule, Mikes crew gave it a shot but came right back in and my crew satyed with it. We made bait and decided to run south. a couple of my crew were feeling a bit under the weather so we decided to turn and run a bit closer to shore. We put a bunch of Nice jacks in the box and then we were faced with a tough decision. Should we run back out and try to catch a few tuna or should we head north and get out of the weather? We decided to make a quick run to deep water and ended up going 1-2 on yellows before being chased in by some serious storms heading our way.
We still have some openings this week including one boat on Saturday. Capt. Billy is expecting his new boat very soon, a new 33 Freeman. He couldn't be more excited. He still has a few weekdays in June and July.
