REEL PEACE CHARTERS Capt. Peace Marvel - Venice, LA USA
Believe it or not we made it offshore this Friday and Saturday. Friday was actually nice offshore. The waves were big but they were so spread out that it was just like driving in the hill country. Billy had Marty Hoskins and crew from Houston. It was especially important that Marty make it off this weekend because his wife will be having a baby this month and he will be docked by that for a while. We didn’t leave the dock till after 8am and they were back by 6 with six Yellowfin on ice. Billy went almost to the Ram before finding fish but when he found them they ate quickly. He caught them on live bait and Islanders rigged with ballyhoo. He also said that the sharks were a real pain. When he would stop to reel in a fish the rest of the baits would get sharked before he could get them in.I had The Yannacone fishing team from TN. This was their third year in a row to come down and fish two days with us. This year all they wanted was to fish the rigs because they still had tuna from last years trip! On Friday we concentrated on big snapper instead of limits and ended up with a nice mess of fish around 15-17lbs. The biggest though weighed in at a whopping 29lbs! That, my friend, is a monster snapper! I wish the STAR tournament had started. Young Jeremy was the man on the reel for the big boy. When he got on the boat he told me that all he wanted a 30lb snapper. He watched the rest of the crew bring in several fish while he patiently fished a big bait with few bites. Finally after an hour or so he had the big bite and made it count. Congrats Jeremy!
Saturday we had the Paul Flowers crew for a three boat bachelor party trip. I am not going to lie to you, Saturday was rough but the crew was willing! The Glacier Bays got a real work out! In the end the three boats brought in over 12 Yellowfin, numerous Blackfin, 8 bull dolphin, and a bunch of nice snapper and AJ. You should have seen the carnage on the dock! It is really good to see that the bull dolphin are here in force. We have been waiting for them for the last few weeks. Our customers love casting poppers to those guys!

Should have fished today! I looked at the bouys and it has not been blowing over 15kts for the last 24 hours! Oh well, I guess the fish got a break today.Last week was awesome! We had the Fontane/ Fankhouser crew from Dallas for a bachler party. They brought three boats worth of people and a $100 side bet for the biggest tuna. The three boats took about 12 Yellowfin and numerous blackfin with the biggest fish weighing in at 100.6lbs! Bachelor number one was the winner and I think he opted for a beer instead of the $300 prize. We had a great time with them as we always do. Matt and Scott have been fishing with me since I had my 22’ Glacier.
On Saturday I had the crew from WT Construction. Wade and the gang put 10 yellowfin in the boat as quickly as they could get lines out. It was a pure tuna slaughter! We could have caught 50 tuna but we had enough and were back at the dock for 2:45! You just gotta love that!
I have been working in the office for the last few days but I did have a very important trip on Tuesday. Dan Luke was kind enough to invite my 5-year-old daughter Earlie and I to his place for some bass fishing. I woke Earlie up at 4:30am and we made the trek to the north shore. After a lot of driving and looking around we finally found a place in Sun that sold minnows. We arrived at the lake shortly after 7 and launched the 14’ bateau. The wind was stiff and paddling was tough but with Earlie’s help we made it to the middle of the lake and dropped the anchor. First cast we had a bite right away but Earlie was not quite ready with the hook set and we lost him. Next cast she was ready. She crossed the fish’s eyes (and nearly took mine out) when she set the hook. To her giggling excitement a nice 2lb bass started jumping. She reeled like the daughter of a tuna captain and moments later the fish was in the boat. I can’t tell you how pleased I was to see my little girl holding up that bass, smiling from ear to ear. The next bass I reeled in and she netted him with the minnow net. We caught one smaller bass and let him go then paddled back to the shore and headed home. She went door to door showing off her fish then we cleaned them and ate them for lunch. It was an awesome time. Memories both of us will have for a lifetime and a seed planted. She asked me just this morning if we could go fishing again today. Thanks again to Dan Luke for setting that up for us.

My first report and what a report it is! Wade, Steve, Dale, and I went out with Reel Peace on Saturday, May 3. Peace took us out to the Cuban coast (so it seemed) to enjoy a great day of Tuna action. We arrived to the floater we are going to fish after a very smooth two or three hour boat ride. We tried for bait with no luck and then it was time for yellowfin tuna. Peace and Remi (I know thats not your name but I called you that all day so its Remi from now on) got three lines out and with in 30 seconds we had a triple hookup! Our crew (well me) was not quite ready for this and only got one of those in the boat. But this is how it was until we ended the day with a triple and left them eating everything in the water. We ended the hour and half of fishing (which was more than we could stand) with 10 Yellowfin Tuna 40-80 lbs, Sore arms (mine felt broken), a great swim in 7k feet of water mainly to take a bath, and the best trip I have ever seen or heard about! If you want the best call Reel Peace! Thanks for everything Peace, I will talk about this trip for the rest of my life!
